GHANA celebrates Heights of Reggae Dancehall, 2nd
Year Edition
[WRITTEN BY:

CURRENTLY, reggae-dancehall
is the loudest duo genre in Ghana and no form of circumstance or authority can
stop this revolutionary phenomenon. The shouts and shots from the root forces
underneath this phenomenon come in so hard and are the pressure effects of a
rock solid cementation, hence the country’s reggae-dancehall surprise rise is
fully strong enough now to survive any shut-down conspiracy anytime now or
later.
It’s, thus, an
undisputable fact that Ghana is a reggae-dancehall nation from this musical era
until eternity. There’s a lot of very strong event plans in the pipeline to
make Ghana the number one African musical vacation destination for the African
Diaspora and other non-afro nationalities, once reggae-dancehall has taken over
Hip Life [the then ruling mainstream rap music in Ghana]. On fair statistics,
Ghana’s reggae and dancehall music keeps doing very well by the day.
All African nations compared,
Ghana is the number one best reggae-dancehall nation on the African continent,
as regards artistic success, musical excellence, serious mass acceptance, fan-base
factions, vocal styling and delivery type of the duo genre.
DJ Nature Won,
one of Ghana’s big name turn-tablists, out of his deepest contemplation and
career love for reggae-dancehall, has successfully birthed out an official
annual event dubbed “Heights of Reggae
Dancehall” and the prospects circling around his objective are very high
and surely unfailing.
The less revealed
objective of DJ Nature Won’s annual
is the move to increase the already growing fan gravitation towards reggae and
dancehall in Ghana. This single objective, over time, can very possibly elevate
“Heights of Reggae Dancehall” from mini festival to a great
musical summit, if the yearly repeat plan won’t suffer serious managerial
lapses. That said, “Heights of Reggae Dancehall”, if groomed properly and managed very
well, will most likely draw in loads of people with strong inclination for
Rastafari vibes and ghetto entertainment.
“Heights of Reggae Dancehall” comes off on the second Saturday of August every
year.
The first edition, which happened at Akuma Village [August 15, 2015], was a straight success. The
audience was satisfactorily fed on good performances by both pioneer and young
artistes. Even without the likes of Samini, Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy and other
mainstream reggae-dancehall big shots, the maiden edition proved highly promising
and each subsequent staging is expected to follow suit. Osagyefo, Konkarah,
Goldteeth, Blakk Mexxiah, Iwan, Ras Kuuku, King Vuvu, AJ Lyrics, Scata Bada, Burning
Fyah, Jah Wyz, Blouk and many other artistes were there to stamp their graces
on the event’s sheet.
This year’s edition, the
second edition, is a home-coming treat to five of Ghana’s foreign based
reggae-dancehall artsites, namely: Kojo
Kombolo [Switzerland], Kwame Partan
[Germany], Paapa Wastik [America], Raja Flames [Germany] and Black I [America]. This big 5 are
brandishing the Ghana flag in their various foreign locations with their music
and are back in town to offer back more. It is hoped that the third edition
will see more of Ghana’s foreign-based artistes coming back home to honour the
event and their orphan fans.
There will be repeat
appearances, but a great mix of new and previous releases will be served. Over 30 artistes have confirmed coming.
On record, last year’s
edition was perfectly co-MC’ed by Empress Lomo, Jah Love and King Lagazee, with
selector support from Ras Nene, King Bash and Nana Dubwise --- not forgetting
Kali Process, a freelance photographer for most of Ghana’s reggae-dancehall
events.
The venue for this year’s “Heights of Reggae Dnacehall” is still Akuma
Village but the date of the occasion is August
15. The event starts at 6pm and ends in the next morning.
It’s a full night show.
Expect nothing but best
performances of real good music, even at a venue like Akuma Village which is
every ghetto youth’s feel personal joint.
DJ Nature Won related that
Next year’s edition will see some foreign artistes of non-Ghanaian
nationalities coming down to grace the event.
The big 5: Kojo Kombolo, Kwame Partan, Paapa Wastik,
Black I, Raja Flames and all the over 20
other artistes on the event bill have promised to deliver their best on the
night.
